REQUIREMENTS
- Ability and willingness to work hard and conscientiously regardless of assignment and be committed to MCSO’s mission
- Ability to act and make decisions through thoughtful consideration and discretion without regard to personal preference or bias
- Ability to solve problems quickly in emergency situations and under stress
- Ability to maintain composure in difficult or stressful situations such as those that require emergency action
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be 20 years and 6 months of age at the time of application
- Must be 21 years of age prior to completing the Sheriff’s academy
- Must meet the requirements of the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board as described here
PHYSICAL READINESS ASSESSMENT (PRA)
Trainee applicants who successfully complete the written exam, background investigation, and polygraph examination must successfully demonstrate physical readiness by completing the following assessments:

Lateral Applicants
Individuals with a current or previous Arizona POST certification or previous/current Law Enforcement Officers in another state or federal agency may qualify for the Deputy Sheriff – Lateral position.
